is it me or should anyone else be a little irk'ed by this?
i see pacific drum ads as well as tama rockstar ads that give the impression that drummers such as mike cosgrove (alien ant farm), brain mantia (GNR), josh freese (perfect circle) dave lombardo (ozzy) really using these rockstar / pacific drums for their tour?
i'm also seeing ads for the zildjian ZXT line that suggests that guys like atom willard (the offspring) and donna c (the donnas) and abe cunningham (deftones) using these cymbals as well?
i hope they are indeed using what they endorse on these ads and are not steering the young impressionable kids the wrong way. wouldn't you be bummed if you're an up and coming young drum enthusiast who'd be crushed to see that his/her drum idol is not using such gear after buying some of it?
let me know what you think and please feel free to debunk my theory.

He seems to be referring to "misleading" advertising... Like MD PICS of Rock Stars standing by more affordable equipment (lower quality), making believe that's what they're using, while it's a big FAT lie...
Your point seems valid, I've not given it much thoughts... Not at all surprised either... $$$$$$

I make it my habit not to
trust any advertisement and
try, in the real world, any-
thing that sounds like it
might be helpful to me.
The proof is in the pudding.

I know what you mean Church. It can be misleading to an extent.
They should maybe keep it real. But the mighty $$ prevails. It makes sense though that the lower end lines would be geared towards the younger crowd. And what better way to pimp them than use the faces you see on MTV.

I totally agree that these ads are misleading. AND, this is what I do for a living (advertising). I did, however, notice that on one of the Tama Rockstar ads, the copy said something like "I play Starclassic Maples, but these Rockstars are great!" Again, in the "small type" of the ad, the part most people don't read.

Meh, ads will always be ads, and I guess the music scene isn't any different. Like does Gadd actually use his new line? There's always celebs on TV promoting products, but that doesn't mean they actually use them.

i guess you're right, steve.
the almighty bling does prevail. it is BUSINESS. at the same time, i believe "pimping" is an appropriate way to describe these ads.
like danny says, it's always good to read the fine print. blame the idealistic side in me to post this thread.
cheers!
